Start with support, then payment plans
When money is tight, the first conversation should include relevant assistance. Ontario programs serve different household and property situations. Checking those routes early can change the project you need to finance.
Prepare without oversharing
For an initial discussion, gather the heating fuel, utility-account details and the basic problem with the home. Only share income documents through an official program application or an appropriately explained assessment process. Our initial matcher does not collect income documents.
Check the Energy Affordability Program
Save on Energy provides income-based support through authorized delivery agents. The available measures depend on the household and home. Use the official program page to find the appropriate application route.
Look at the building as well as the equipment
If rooms are uncomfortable, discuss insulation and draft issues alongside heating equipment. Ask which work addresses the problem and which work can be staged. A clear scope can prevent committing to upgrades that do not solve the main concern.
Protect the monthly budget
If you still need a payment plan, compare the full schedule with the household budget. Do not rely on projected energy savings to make an otherwise unmanageable payment affordable. Ask for the assumptions and keep a margin for changing circumstances.
